Moschino Fall 2017

Would you wear cardboard couture? Well, Jeremy Scott is hoping you want to. His kitschy—no surprise there—and statement-making—even less of a shock—Fall 2017 collection for Moschino was a mix of the aforementioned, a tribute to a time when print thrived, and a whole new, head-turning take on red carpet.

And though inspired by the boxes we all throw away, the opening looks were downright pretty. The opening skirt suit on Kendall Jenner was ladies who lunch but keep it fresh and a “Fragile” trench and knee-high boots on Gigi Hadid was easily one of the most functional ensembles in the assortment.

Some looks barely screamed Moschino at all—a rare occurrence in these days of Logomania. A croc, python, and ostrich embossed leather coat was the epitome of luxury, but was not to be upstaged by the absolute practicality of a double-breasted piece with contrast seam trim.

But naturally, the logos did not stop. They’re one of the brand’s cornerstones after all. They were strewn across baseball caps, gold dangling, chain link belts, jaw-dropping LWDs, and even leather boots.

Accessories were flashy and sometimes unbelievable—larger-than-life shades which felt like a chic take on those 3-D movie sunglasses, thigh-high printed boots that were an ode to the ripped out magazine spreads of yesteryear, can-inspired necklaces, and opera gloves that you wouldn’t actually wear to the theater.

Alesha Dixon, Gwen Stefani, Keke Palmer, and Taraji P. Henson are all fans of the iconic Italian fashion house and I”m sure they saw more than a few things they’d like to sport on the red carpet, at high-fashion events, or onstage. A little red dress with gold fringe accents on Anna Cleveland would literally match the red carpet, while a dry cleaning-influenced gown and hanger headpiece by accessories master Stephen Jones might tickle the fancy of a super daring fashionista who lives for shock and awe.

There’s absolutely no doubt about it: Jeremy Scott has fun with fashion. No, you wouldn’t be caught dead in most of these looks, but why not create them? In this new Trump world order, it’s just nice to feel good, isn’t it?
