Best of 2014: Model of the Year.

Jourdan Dunn & Naomi Campbell Burberry
With 2014 coming to a close, it’s pretty safe to say this year served as the catalyst for milestones for quite a few others with names other than Beyonce.  And because of fashion being such the revolving door that it is, it’s almost too easy to get caught up in the whirlwind.  No longer being the object of a designer’s inspiration and becoming the muse of fashion week past can happen at any second.  But there are a few models who’ve  managed to maintain stickability in this crazy world.  From runway shows to ad campaigns and editorials, these are the models (in no particular order) who outposed the rest to snag a nod in this year’s running of Model of the Year.

1. Jourdan Dunn

The British beauty definitely shows no signs of slowing down.  Jourdan Dunn has been modeling for at least eight years, and it’s clear why she’s become a household name at the age of 24.  Her effervescent spirit and gamine built keep her on every designer’s radar, from Olivier Rousteing to Oscar de la Renta, especially during fashion month.

She’s also racked up a few Vogue editorials this year.  Having served as one of the faces of Burberry for a few years now, the fashion world went into overload when the latest campaign for the brand featuring Dunn and Naomi Campbell hit the internet.

2. Naomi Campbell

Naomi Campbell for The Edit
What would a list like this be without the incomparable Naomi Campbell?  The legend (as Models.com aptly labeled her) has been dominating the fashion scene since the late 80’s without any signs of delay.  Cover after cover and campaign after campaign, it looks as though 2014 has been good to Miss Campbell.
Naomi Campbell for Agent Provocateur
The current face of designer lingerie brand Agent Provocateur and editor at large for both German and Russian Interview, it’s clear that Campbell has capitalized on her affinity for all things fashion, and her ability to be diverse, wearing hats in front of the camera and behind an editor’s desk.  Where some girls land onto the pages of obscurity after a season, Campbell still continues to storm the runways the likes of Zac Posen and Dolce and Gabbana.  If she isn’t the definition of true staying power, I don’t know what is.

3. Joan Smalls

Joan Smalls for H&M
Joan Smalls has had her gear in drive ever since the start of her modeling career.  2014 proved to be no different for her.  She started out with a bang landing the cover of Elle’s January issue, and has had a crazy schedule since.

Another favorite of Vogue, Smalls has graced countless covers and editorial campaigns this year, like H&M’s holiday lookbook and Balmain’s Spring 2015 campaign.  It’s almost inevitable to see her in a fashion magazine every month.  But it’s not all about work, work, work for this it girl.  She loves a red carpet gala and is often seen posing for cameras at a few events with designer pals like Tom Ford and Ricardo Tisci while wearing their glamorous duds.

4. Kendall Jenner

Kendall Jenner Vogue
You can say what you want about the Kardashian-Jenners, but it’s apparent that the family knows how to capitalize on being in front of the camera.  Enter Kendall Jenner.  While it’s still up for debate whether or not the doll faced model got where she is because of her family name, her work ethic can not be argued.
Kendall Jenner Dazed & Confused
She’s become a runway favorite, and it seems like it all happened over night.  Kendall dominated fashion month walking for blue chips shows like Diane von Furstenberg, Givenchy, and Chanel, just to name a few.  But the magic didn’t stop there for her.  She’s graced the pages of LOVE and American Vogue and was recently named the new face of beauty conglomerate Estee Lauder.  And she did it all at 19.

5. Cara Delevingne

Cara Delevigne for Saint Laurent
The fashion world has met its most infectious model with a slight rebellious streak in Cara Delevingne.  Her enviable cheekbones and signature thick eyebrows made her a photographer’s dream, but it’s her bubbly personality that keeps clients wanting more of her.

Cara Delevingne and Pharrell for Chanel She recently became the face of Burberry’s latest fragrance “My Burberry” alongside Kate Moss and starred with Pharrell Williams for Chanel’s short film “Reincarnation”.  The work doesn’t stop there, however.  She still walks the runways of Chanel, DKNY, and Saint Laurent.  And the magazine covers and editorials just keep coming.  Allure, Vogue, W and LOVE have all captured Cara’s undeniable beauty and presence.  And with a relatable and quirky disposition like hers, she shows no signs of slowing down just yet.
